  • Amy Woodforde-Finden

    A highly successful composer of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, Amy Woodforde-Finden, together with her husband and step-son, is laid to rest in the churchyard of St Thomas à Becket Parish Church. Inside the church there is an impressive marble monument of her, created by the renowned sculptor George Edward  Wade. It was unveiled in 1923 and a few years later, Finden Gardens in Hampsthwaite was named in her honour.[Click on title or image to link to articles]

Using Office

An Office Suite is a collection of general productivity software used to create documents, presentations, diagrams, charts an calculations etc. Office Suites usually comprise: wordprocessor, spreadsheet, database and some form of presentation software.

Microsoft Office has become the 'industry standard' but other online and free versions exist which may be perfectly adequate for the home user - and they are FREE!

All applications listed below are capable of sharing files with each other and with the paid for MS Office.


Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office is well established as being the 'standard' application for producing documents, creating spreadsheets and making presentations for example. But if you are a home user, and don't really need the most advanced features of MS Office, there are several less expensive alternatives - i.e. FREE!


MS Office Online

Microsoft have created Office Online which, together with One Drive, enables the creation, storage and sharing of  documents, spreadsheets and presentations. It is FREE but you wil need to sign up for a Microsoft Account to use it.

One Drive is installed of Windows8 and is part of the suite of online services formerly known as Windows Live. It allows users to keep the files private, share them with contacts, or make the files public. Publicly shared files do not require a Microsoft account to access.


Google Docs

Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms are another FREE, web-based Office Suite for documents, spreadsheets, presentations and survey forms.  The suite allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating with other users in real-time.

Users will need for to sign up to a Google Account and all files created are saved by default to Google Drive.


LibreOffice

A free and open source Office Suite, developed by The Document Foundation. It was forked from OpenOffice.org in 2010, which was an open-sourced version of the earlier StarOffice.

The LibreOffice suite comprises programs to do word processing, spreadsheets, slideshows, diagrams and drawings, maintain databases, and compose mathematical formulae.
