  • Amy Woodforde-Finden

    A highly successful composer of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, Amy Woodforde-Finden, together with her husband and step-son, is laid to rest in the churchyard of St Thomas à Becket Parish Church. Inside the church there is an impressive marble monument of her, created by the renowned sculptor George Edward  Wade. It was unveiled in 1923 and a few years later, Finden Gardens in Hampsthwaite was named in her honour.[Click on title or image to link to articles]

Working with Images

The advent of digital photogaphy has liberated the taking, storage, sharing and usage of images. Photographs can be edited or even distorted to create special effects.

The final image can simply be viewed on screen, emailed to others, used in documents and publications, printed off or sent to a specialist to have professional prints produced. Similarly, the final image can be used as surface decoration to a wide range of everyday products.

Jessops Photo

In common with some other photography specialists, Jessops have responded positively to the advent of digital photography by offering services enabling photos to be used to create a wide range of products either online or using downloaded software.

Jessops are not alone in providing these service and others you might wish to look at include:

  • Photobox - you can build up photo albums in your account and print when offers are on.
  • Cewe Photo Book - this is originating site for the download software used by Jessops but also lists companies such a Boots, W H Smith and Argos as partners.

GIMP

For those who wish to do some PhotoShop type work, GIMP is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc. - creating images with transparent backgrounds for example.
